Job description

We are looking for a Earth Observation Products Modelling Expert on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA) for their location in Frascati, Italy. The selected candidate will be involved in end-to-end review and supervision of EO missions through appropriate engineering activities. The selected candidate should show integrity and professionalism.


Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage).


The activity is aimed at providing technical expertise on the use of EO based products, in modelling tools for monitoring and forecasting in the domains of atmosphere, coastal and marine, as support to the Service Segment. The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:

  • Preparation and update documents established at Service Segment level as needed;
  • Contribution to Technical Deliverable Reviews related to technical tasks of the Service Segment development contracts, in particular;
  • Design and Development of the Service Value Chains, Validation and Product delivery;
  • Supporting review process for all critical Service Segment Elements;
  • Supporting Service Segment Team in technical meetings with Industry and User Communities.

Job requirements

  • Masters’ degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or any other degree including numerical modelling and remote sensing courses;
  • At least 8 years of relevant working experience;
  • Experience on Earth Observation satellite-based applications and services, from data ingestion up to end user exploitation;
  • Solid and experienced knowledge of SAR and Optical (including VNIR, TIR, hyperspectral) Remote Sensing data and processing techniques applied to atmospheric and marine applications;
  • Knowledge and experience in dealing with numerical modelling related to Coastal and Marine, Air Quality, Hydro-Metereologic-Climate, Water Management;
  • Experience in processing and analyzing geospatial data and satellite imagery for applications supporting modelling for forecasting and monitoring domains;
  • Experience on SW integration, verification and validation;
  • Experience with Earth Observations Data Management;
  • Experience in data quality control and validation is an asset;
  • Experience in developing and running operational services based on EO data processing is an asset;
  • Background in EO based Service and applications is an asset;
  • Knowledge of a programming language (preferably Python) is an advantage;
  • Self-motivation, autonomy and the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team;
  • Flexibility in dealing with day-to-day operational challenges;
  • Strong teamwork;
  • Able to thoroughly address responsibilities, with good attention to detail and a proven understanding of documentation methods and requirements;
  • Able to review, assess and document problems and to propose solutions;
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, strong social skills, and ability to build consensus among peers while building solid relationships with team members;
  • Very good command of English, both written spoken.
