We are looking for a ​Java Software Developer​ on behalf of and in support to our client for their location in ​Milan, Italy​. Please be aware that this is a 1-year project, and that we also welcome applicants looking to work as freelancers.

 

Are you a passionate software developer with experience in Java, and looking to take on an ambitious and innovative project? On behalf of our client, we are looking for a Java Software Developer to join their Telescope team, working on the development of a fully remote and automated telescope designed to support leading space agencies in the areas of SST (Space Surveillance and Tracking) and NEO (Near-Earth Objects).  

This is a cutting-edge project that will allow you to work with advanced software and infrastructure solutions in a dynamic and challenging environment. If you have solid experience in microservices development with Spring Boot, Docker, and managing CI/CD pipelines, this is the perfect opportunity for you.  

 

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage). 

 

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to: 

  • Design and develop Java applications using Spring Boot and microservices architecture;  

  • Manage the full software development lifecycle, with a focus on continuous release through CI/CD (Jenkins/GitLab); 

  • Manage the software packaging process and save artifacts to repositories such as Artifactory; 

  • Containerize and orchestrate applications using Docker; 

  • Develop and maintain unit and functional tests with JUnit to ensure code quality; 

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of PostgreSQL databases (schema modeling, stored procedures); 

  • Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team and work closely with space industry experts to ensure the effectiveness of the software.

Job requirements

Essential 

Please ensure that your CV clearly explains how you meet the mandatory requirements. If it doesn’t align completely with the essential criteria, it could result in rejection. 

  • Master's degree or higher in engineering (e.g., Computer Science, Electronics, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Automation); 

  • At least 8 years of relevant experience;

  • At least 3 years of experience as a software developer or in a similar role; 

  • Strong knowledge of Java 8 or later versions, and Spring Boot; 

  • Experience in designing and developing microservices applications;  

  • Proficiency in using Docker for containerization and release management tools like Jenkins and GitLab; 

  • Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and using JUnit for testing; 

  • Strong knowledge of the Linux environment; 

  • Ability to work in a dynamic team, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and thrive in a fast-paced environment; 

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken; 

  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the EU. 

Advantageous 

  • Experience with software artifact management tools like Artifactory; 

  • Skills in C++ and Python; 

  • Familiarity with orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
