Job description

We are looking for an ​AV Technician​ on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA) for their location in ​Noordwijk, The Netherlands​, to join their ​Erasmus Service​. The selected candidate should show integrity and professionalism. The selected candidate will be responsible for the correct functioning of the equipment of the ERASMUS Innovation Centre (technical services) and for the reconfiguration of the rooms (set-up services). Additionally, he/she will take care of the first level of maintenance on a large range of equipment of the Centre: IT, audio, video, visualization, lighting, mechanical and electrical systems. Finally, he/she will provide event support in operating audio, video and lights during events.


Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage). 


The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:

  • Maintain a functioning A/V infrastructure;
  • Provide a yearly maintenance plan;
  • Provide support in the reconfiguration of the centre for the various requirements of the various events
  • under the responsibility of the Operations Manager;
  • Point of contact towards ESTEC Facility Management for the electrical and mechanical infrastructure of the Centre;
  • Provide first level of preventive maintenance to the audio-video infrastructure of the Centre;
  • Provide corrective maintenance where necessary;
  • Propose customised solutions in the A/V, IT, electrical and mechanical areas as requested by ESA;
  • Technical Responsible and initiating procurement actions with external suppliers;
  • Support integration of new equipment;
  • Maintain the configuration of the High Bay with its mock-ups and scale models, keep an inventory of the assets and a list of the location of the models stored off-site on ESA storage location;
  • Provide logistics support when external events requests Erasmus models;
  • Responsible for the correct functioning of the ESA provided equipment, for keeping the stock of necessary consumables and for safely operating and providing access to the Electro-Mechanical workshop and Drop Tower;
  • Be the Erasmus point of contact for Health and Safety related activities;
  • Verify that periodic safety inspection and maintenance activities take place;
  • Responsible for the provision of live streaming Internet video capabilities of the Erasmus User Centre;
  • Event support with basic video post processing, audio mixing and video mixing during events and operation of robotized cameras;
  • Interface with ESTEC Facility Management and IT local delta support services for the network planning and wired and wireless connections implementation;
  • Provide support to 3rd party suppliers of event services;
  • Collect user requirements for the improvement of the current A/V infrastructure;
  • Provide technical inputs for ESA procurements.

Job requirements

  • Technical degree in relevant engineering disciplines;
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience;
  • Proven experience and skills in the operation and configuration of video and audio mixers;
  • Proven experience in the operation of video and audio conference equipment, including MCU connection and point-to-point connections;
  • Engineering experience in keeping configuration diagrams and drawings for the A/V, network and IT Infrastructure;
  • Basic Elements of Safety certificate VCA: VGM (Veiligheid, gezondheid en milieu) Checklist Aannemers;
  • Capacity to operate: soldering irons, cable crimping tools, lathe, saw (lintzaag – ribbon saw), alp-lift, forklift, mechanical tools, electrical basic equipment (multimeter);
  • Appropriate experience as cameraman;
  • Autonomy in doing simple video editing jobs;
  • Able to operate video streaming services for the Centre with a high level of autonomy;
  • Autonomy in operating light equipment setting and operations;
  • Certified skills and long experience in operating the Electro-mechanical equipment in the workshop.
  • This includes assisting visiting companies during third party installation;
  • Customer oriented approach in supporting event with the public;
  • Team player attitude;
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken;
  • Working knowledge of Dutch is an asset.
