Job description

We are looking for a ​Business Management professional to complete our consultants Workforce Management Service to provide Business Management support to the ​Directorate of ​Human and Robotic Exploration of the European Space Agency (ESA) at their location in ​Noordwijk, The Netherlands​. The service is expected to be on-site in ESTEC, collocated with the project teams and providing remote support to EAC or ECSAT with travels/missions as required. The purpose of this Support Service is to ​assist teams in performing studies, as well as from the start of implementation to the end of in-flight commissioning​. The selected candidate should show integrity and professionalism.


Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at the interview stage).


The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:

  • Business Analysis Tasks
    • Provide oversight and co-ordination of data verification tasks between the ESA corporate financial system the Directorate planning database (IPCDB);
    • Extract, collect, clean, and preprocess large datasets from various sources to support analysis;
    • Analyse complex datasets from disparate sources, conduct exploratory data analysis and data mining to identify trends, patterns, anomalies and solve complex data questions and queries;
    • Support the coordination of the multi-year planning exercise, financial closure exercises and provide ad-hoc customised business analysis reports;
    • Perform statistical analysis to gain a deeper understanding of data, identifying and interpreting trends and patterns in large and varied datasets;
    • Provide predictive modelling in close co-ordination with the ESA WPTR and ESA Contact Points;
    • Support long term planning scenario analysis and document preparations;
    • Support the BUC (Business Unit Control) office internal cost review exercise;
    • Prepare, implement, and maintain the basis of future geo-return reporting by supporting and documenting in close coordination with the BUC Office:
      • Understanding the data architecture of EROS data in the Data Factory;
      • Setting up the required data structure in Power BI;
      • Creating and implementing new reports for actual geo-return data;
      • Building and complementing report on actual geo-return data with the forecast data;
      • Supporting collection and definition of Geo-return requirements, drafting of functional specifications testing and roll-out tools/reporting;
      • Updating of geo-return reports/dashboards ensuring data verification, correctness and approved visualisations.
    • Support the definition and creation of Business Objects Reports and actively support the transition to other types of business reporting (e.g. Power BI);
    • Prepare Lessons Learned and actively contributed to a common process for HRE data and suggested ways and best practices to improve the process, tools, practices on an ongoing basis based on feedback, data analysis, and benchmarking;
    • Identify and assess the HRE IT needs, identifying improvements and translating them into functional specifications and solutions in close coordination with the BUC Office;
    • Analyse the current methodology for the HRE dashboarding and identify and implement approved options to automate and improve visualisation for project status reporting and KPIs in close collaboration with the Controlling Office;
    • Design, develop, and implement new IT systems and tools, such as dashboards, reports, and workflows, using various software applications and platforms;
    • Prepare the basis of future workforce tool(s):
      • Understand and analyse the data architecture of workforce and workload data in the Data Factory;
      • Support collection and definition of workforce requirements, draft functional specifications testing and roll-out of new tools/reporting;
      • Set up the required data structure/models in Power BI;
      • Create and implement new reports for actual workforce data and planning data.
  • Digitalisation and Database Training Support Tasks
    • Create and maintain training materials and user guides, on IT systems, tools, databases, reports and dashboards;
    • Provide training briefings, procedures, and guidelines on HRE tools and databases;
    • Provide recommendations for continuous improvement and optimisation based on best practices, benchmarking, and user feedback;
    • Conduct feedback surveys to analyse the user satisfaction with the IT systems and tools and reports, and make recommendations for improvements and enhancements to systems, tools, processes, and reporting;
    • Collaborate with the users and stakeholders to identify and assess the IT needs and requirements and translate them into functional specifications and solutions.

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM and/or Business;      
  • At least 5 years of experience in the Space/High-Tech sector;     
  • Highly proficient in ESA business tools (SAP ECC & SRM, CMYP, EROS, HRMS, Data Factory, Data Cube);  
  • Highly proficient in Database/SQL skills (oracle, Microsoft SQL database, Python, Pearl or R for data analysis and modelling;  
  • Experienced with data manipulation and analysis libraries, Business Objects, Power BI and business intelligent tools, visualisation skills and predictive modelling skills (AI);  
  • High capacity to communicate effectively with international teams from engineering, technical and business domains;       
  • High level of organizational skills, flexibility and ability to identify priorities;     
  • Strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills;     
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
