Job description

We are looking for a ​Chemical Propulsion Engineer​ to complete our consultants Workforce Management Service to support the Propulsion, Aerothermodynamics and Flight Vehicles Engineering Division of the European Space Agency (ESA) at their location in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. 

 

The purpose of this Support Service is to provide general technical services and manage activities related to Research and Technology Development, digital modeling and simulation, laboratory tasks, and engineering support. R&D engineering includes (non-exhaustive list):

  • Contributing to technology forums and proposing R&D activities aligned with the Division’s vision.

  • Entering activity proposals into the tools and coordinating with the Programme for the procurement process.

  • Implementing and updating repositories and collaborative tools with activity progress, organizing the final presentation, and contributing to the visibility of R&D results and knowledge transfer within ESA.

 

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at the interview stage).

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to: 

  • Prepare documentation and inputs to meetings and technical milestones;  

  • Review technical deliverables and provide inputs to the ESA TR;   

  • Organise and attend technical meetings and test activities;  

  • Report on the outcome of technical meetings and milestones;  

  • Regularly update the activity tracking system (i.e. ACTIS-e) and document management system in place in the Division (i.e. Eclipse/Polaris); 

  • Support the implementation of ESA Chemical propulsion laboratory, maintaining and operating facilities;  

  • Support the technical expertise provided to ESA Member states test facilities stakeholders;  

  • Support the development and maintenance of chemical propulsion modelling tools.  

  • Review project documentation as produced throughout the project lifetime in the area of chemical propulsion;  

  • Assess technical knowledge gaps and research questions identified by ESA for their studies and projects;   

  • Perform engineering analysis using literature research, analytical models and numerical tools maintenance to address these knowledge gaps and research questions;   

  • Interface with other project engineering disciplines within ESA in support to the chemical propulsion engineering;   

  • Develop and/or improve software models, tools and processes to support all mentioned activities;   

  • Provide lessons learned and proposed updates to processes and procedures identified as part of the engineering support.  

Job requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Engineering or Computer Science, applied to Electric, Chemical, Aerothermodynamics and Flight Vehicles Engineering;  

  • ISO9001 certification;  

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience;  

  • Experience in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with emphasis in chemical and/or advanced propulsion related subjects;  

  • Proven experience in the design, development and/or testing of chemical propulsion systems and/or components for spacecraft and/or launcher applications;  

  • Strong knowledge of other specialist technological areas involved in space propulsion i.e. materials, thermal, mechanical is considered an asset;  

  • Rigor, commitment, and reliability in the execution of the assigned tasks;  

  • Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the EU;  

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
