Job description

We are looking for a Director of Professional Consultancy based at the ATG Headquarters in Noordwijk, The Netherlands. 

 

ATG Europe is a rapidly growing company with headquarters next to the European Space Agency’s Technology Centre (ESTEC). With subsidiaries across Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, and France, ATG is a leading provider of specialised engineering, scientific, and technical services to Space, Big Science, and High-Tech agencies and industries. 

 

In the context of our international expansion, ATG Group is seeking a strategic leader for our Professional Consultancy (PC) Business Unit. As Director, you will lead and mentor the PC Account Management team, driving sustainable business growth while ensuring strict legal compliance across all countries of operation. Furthermore, you will sit on the ATG Group Management Team, working closely with Executives to shape and execute our overarching Professional Consultancy strategy. This role offers a unique opportunity to spearhead innovative projects, tackle high-stakes challenges, and leverage your expertise at an executive level. 

 

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage). 

 

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to: 

 

Leadership, strategy & operations: 

  • Oversee business operations and the holistic performance of the Professional Consultancy Business Unit; 

  • Motivate, lead, and supervise Account Managers, providing clear strategic direction to drive organizational growth; 

  • Formulate commercial and business plans that strictly align with corporate goals; 

  • Drive the implementation of company policies across all regional activities; 

  • Contribute to and maintain the company’s public profile; and industry standing; 

 

Business development & client relations: 

  • Identify and capture new business opportunities across both public and private sectors; 

  • Monitor and capitalize on industry trends, technological shifts, and market dynamics; 

  • Target and convert prospects into long-term commercial accounts; 

  • Build, maintain, and qualify a robust sales lead pipeline; 

  • Cultivate deep, enduring client relationships built on trust and performance; 

  • Ensure business continuity across clients' multi-year procurement and tendering cycles; 

  • Identify and engage strategic partners to strengthen ATG's global positioning and support contract negotiations; 

  • Manage the preparation of commercial bids and proposals, contributing personal expertise on high-value tenders; 

  • Represent ATG at key industry conferences, forums, and networking events; 

 

Financial management, compliance & reporting: 

  • Manage financial performance (P&L) to ensure the business unit consistently hits its targets; 

  • Assess commercial risks to ensure long-term business sustainability and implement proactive mitigation plans; 

  • Ensure absolute compliance with national legal guidelines governing consultancy services in all countries of operation; 

  • Oversee governance and optimize business development processes in line with industry best practices; 

  • Review and deliver highly accurate weekly and monthly progress and financial reports.

Job requirements

Please ensure that your CV clearly explains how you meet the mandatory requirements. If it doesn’t align completely with the essential criteria, it could result in rejection. 

 

  • University degree in a STEM subject, Business Administration, or Economics; 

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience, including: 

    • At least 4 years in a similar business management or director-level role; 

    • At least 5 years working directly with key institutional accounts (e.g., ESA, Fusion4Energy, EUSPA, etc.) is highly preferred; 

  • A proven track record in developing services or systems for the European space sector, alongside deep knowledge of space-related institutions and industry networks (especially in Italy and broader Europe); 

  • Commercial Acumen: Strong understanding of the full business acquisition lifecycle (identification, qualification, capture planning, and win strategies), paired with sharp financial and HR compliance acumen across multi-country setups; 

  • Exceptional diplomatic skills combined with a firm, accountable attitude; ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and collaborate cross-functionally; 

  • Full fluency in English (written and spoken). Fluency in other major European languages is a distinct asset;
