Enterprise Platform Engineer

We are seeking a motivated, hands-on Enterprise Platform Engineer on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA) for their location in ​Madrid, Spain​, to help administer, evolve, and modernize enterprise collaboration, service management, and software platforms.. Please be aware that this position is initially intended to be filled on a full-time basis until 01/01/2027 when it will become part-time for 28 hours per week. 

The successful candidate will support the operation, maintenance, customization, and continuous improvement of business-critical services, with particular involvement in the Atlassian ecosystem, including Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Confluence. The role also o5ers exposure to platform modernization, cloud adoption, software development, automation, and operational support.

This position combines platform administration, software engineering, automation, Linux systems administration, and DevOps practices. As part of an Agile team, the successful candidate will work with users, service owners, developers, and infrastructure engineers across the full-service lifecycle—from requirements analysis and implementation to deployment, troubleshooting, maintenance, and documentation

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage).

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:

Enterprise Platform Administration

• Support the administration, maintenance, and operation of enterprise collaboration and service management platforms;

• Contribute to the configuration and maintenance of projects, workflows, permissions, request types, automations, integrations, and user-facing services;

• Support users and stakeholders in the effective adoption and use of enterprise platforms;

• Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve platform, application, and user-related issues;

• Assist with platform upgrades, maintenance activities, and lifecycle management;

• Produce and maintain operational procedures, user documentation, and technical notes.

Platform Modernization and Cloud Adoption

• Contribute to platform modernization and cloud-adoption initiatives;

• Assist in the migration of on-premises services towards cloud-based solutions;

• Participate in testing, validation, and deployment activities;

• Support the analysis of existing configurations, workflows, and integrations to facilitate platform evolution;

• Contribute to the adoption of modern platform capabilities and best practices.

Software Development and Integration

• Develop and maintain scripts, automations, integrations, and custom solutions;

• Contribute to the implementation of software solutions using Java, Python, or similar technologies;

• Develop and maintain web-based applications and user interfaces;

• Develop and consume REST APIs;

• Participate in software maintenance, testing, and continuous improvement activities.

Platform Operations and DevOps

• Support applications running in both virtualized and containerized environments;

• Contribute to CI/CD and deployment automation activities;

• Support source-control and release-management processes;

• Assist with Linux system administration and operational activities;

• Participate in monitoring, incident analysis, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.

Quality Assurance and Engineering Practices

• Engage in Agile development practices including Sprint Planning, Reviews, Retrospectives, and Backlog Refinement;

• Develop and maintain unit and integration tests;

• Contribute to software quality initiatives and automated testing activities;

• Support change management, release management, and configuration management processes;

• Document designs, implementations, test results, and operational procedures.

Essential 

• Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related engineering discipline;

• At least 5 years of relevant experience;

• Knowledge of at least one programming language such as Java or Python;

• Familiarity with web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or TypeScript;

• Familiarity with Linux operating systems and shell scripting;

• Understanding of REST APIs and web services;

• Experience using version control systems such as Git;

• Familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MariaDB;

• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies;

• Experience with Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence, or similar enterprise platforms;

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;

• Good written and verbal communication skills;

• Ability to learn new technologies and work in multidisciplinary technical environments;

• Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the EU;

• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Advantageous

• Experience administering or supporting enterprise applications;

• Experience with Java, Python, Groovy, or TypeScript development;

• Experience with Angular, HTML5, CSS3, and modern web application development;

• Experience developing or consuming REST APIs;

• Familiarity with Atlassian Data Center and Atlassian Cloud products;

• Familiarity with cloud-migration projects;

• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Bitbucket Pipelines, or GitLab CI/CD;

• Familiarity with Kubernetes or containerized environments;

• Familiarity with GitOps concepts and tools such as Argo CD;

• Familiarity with software quality and testing tools such as SonarQube, Jest, or Python unittest;

• Familiarity with Linux automation and scripting;

• Knowledge of ITSM and ITIL concepts;

• Knowledge of ECSS standards or engineering lifecycle practices;

• Familiarity with monitoring and observability platforms such as Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, Loki, or Zabbix;

• Knowledge of enterprise authentication technologies such as LDAP, SAML, or OAuth;

• Experience writing technical documentation and operational procedures.
