EO Data Validation Expert

We are looking for multiple EO Data Validation Experts on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA), ideally for their location in Frascati, Italy. For this position, remote working from another location is negotiable. We welcome applications from both candidates looking for full time employment and freelance opportunities.   

The successful candidates will support scientific validation, benchmarking, and use-case planning for an upcoming initiative in advanced satellite data simulation. 

The role involves working with multi-source EO data, contributing scientific insight, validating generated synthetic measurements by defining validation workflows. 

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage). 

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to: 

• Review and scientific validation of simulated EO data products (Processing Level-1); 

• Definition of modality-specific quality metrics (spectral, radiometric, geometric); 

• Support in selecting and evaluating datasets for benchmarking and training; 

• Assess scenes/data quality under various geometric and environmental conditions; 

• Guide downstream applications/specialized tasks or scientifically relevant use-case evaluation (e.g., land, water, agriculture); 

• Contribute to internal validation reports and collaborative technical reviews.

• A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; 

• At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in EO data analysis or applications; 

• Familiarity with sensor-level EO data; 

• Strong technical understanding of data characteristics and mission requirements; 

• Comfortable working in a collaborative, research-driven environment; 

• Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the EU;  

• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
