Job description

We are looking for a Ground Segment Engineer on behalf of and in support to our client for their location in Frascati, Italy. The selected candidate should show integrity and professionalism.


Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage).


The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:

  • Support to PDGS design documents and Sub-Systems Requirements Documents;
  • Review of the testing specifications for the integration and validation of the relevant facilities;
  • Review of the Test Data Set specification and generation;
  • Support to the PDGS Integration and Validation and Ground Segment Validation phases addressing the PDGS;
  • Generation of technical notes whenever needed during the relevant project phases;
  • Implementation Plan and procedures for the relevant PDGS sub-systems;
  • Technical management of subsystems design activities down to component level;
  • Preparation of subsystems technical requirements specifications;
  • Support for the preparation of the launch and the implementation of rehearsal activities;
  • Quality control results analysis and reporting during commissioning;
  • Engineering budgets and S/S performance;
  • Mission Simulation acquisition campaigns;
  • Definition and evolution of products Quality Control and Instruments Monitoring baselines;
  • Support for processing algorithms definition and review.

Job requirements

  • Master’s degree or comparable in Aerospace Engineering;
  • At least 10 years of relevant work experience;
  • At least 5 years of work experience in Ground Segment (G/S) engineering projects for space systems;
  • At least 5 years of work experience in definition and design of Payload Data S/S for EO systems for institutional and/or commercial customers;
  • Strong experience with optical instruments, SAR instruments, panchromatic instruments, hyperspectral sensors, and infrared sensors;
  • Experience with coordinating partners from different companies in an international team;
  • Strong competences in design and development of EO space systems;
  • Strong competences in the Commissioning activities with regards to calibration and validation of EOsystems;
  • Use of simulation tools for the definition of G/S performances, e.g., Stk, MATLAB, IDL, Python;
  • Proven capability to define of G/S design throughout the support of model-based methods, techniques and tools (e.g. SysML, UML, Capella MBSE);
  • Sound knowledge of ground system engineering processes, and ground system and software life cycles;
  • Sound knowledge of relevant ECSS or other Space standards;
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken;
  • Knowledge of Italian language is not required, but desirable.
