Job description

We are looking for a ​Ground Station Engineer​ on behalf of and in support to our client for their location in ​Rome, Italy​. The selected candidate should show integrity and professionalism.


Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage).


The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Engineering of Ground Stations and Ground Stations-as-a-Service (GSaaS) within FOS;
  • Ground Station and GSaaS interfaces control management;
  • Technical management of Ground Station and GSaaS supply;
  • Support to Ground Station and GSaaS integration, verification and validation;
  • Production and review of relevant documentation;
  • Support design reviews and technical meetings on RF, networking, software, interfaces relevant to the Ground Station and GSaaS.

Job requirements

  • University degree preferably in the fields of Aerospace/Space Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering or Computer Science and Engineering;
  • General knowledge of Ground Segment Architecture and its main components;
  • Sound knowledge of Ground Stations Architecture;
  • Knowledge of Radio Frequency systems design and development;
  • Knowledge of Digital Signal Processing;
  • Knowledge of computer systems (Linux in particular), programming languages and networking;
  • Knowledge of space communication protocols layers (e.g., from the physical layer up to the application layer of the ISO/OSI Reference Model);
  • Knowledge of CCSDS and ECSS space communication protocols standards (Sync and Channel Coding, Space Data Link, Space Packet Protocol (SPP), Encapsulation Packet Protocol, Space Data Link Security Protocol (SDLS), Space Link Extension (SLE), Packet Utilization Standard (PUS));
  • Knowledge of other communication protocols is an asset (e.g., MQTT, CAN-bus/CANopen, LVDS, RS422);
  • High motivation, proactive working approach and strong sense of responsibility;
  • Full professional proficiency in the English language is mandatory.
