Job description

We are looking for a Head of Engineering on behalf of and in support to our client for their location in Darmstadt, Germany. Please be aware that this position is for a fixed period of 6 months, with the possibility of extension.

The head of engineering is responsible for maintaining daily technical oversight, managing the engineering team, and ensuring project continuity. This role combines hands-on technical support with hands-on management duties, including project coordination, technical documentation review, and stakeholder communication. The primary job is to lead the engineering team, ensuring productivity, compliance with technical standards, and alignment of the projects as per company objectives throughout the interim period. The head of engineering will report to the CTO regularly.

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:

  • Execute the engineering strategy, providing expertise across hardware and software components and reporting updates and challenges to the CTO;

  • Oversee project timelines and goals, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with client and industry standards, including budget management and resource allocation;

  • Serve as the representative for project updates, communicating with internal teams, clients, or partners on engineering progress and milestones;

  • Manage and lead the engineering team in ongoing system design, integration, and testing tasks, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning;

  • Implement and oversee quality control processes and testing procedures to ensure compliance with space industry standards;

  • Prepare and/or review documentation, including project statuses, technical decisions, and team updates, ensuring accuracy for project milestones and knowledge continuity;

  • Work closely with teams across the company, such as business development, administration, etc.

Job requirements

  • Master's in Aerospace, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or related field;

  • At least 10 years of experience in space systems design, integration and testing;

  • At least 5 years in a leadership role, ideally in aerospace or a related industry;

  • Experience with technical documentation, project management and stakeholder communication;

  • Proficiency in systems engineering best practices and project management;

  • Strong communication skills to maintain clear updates with the engineering team and stakeholders;

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities with a focus on quality;

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
