Job description

We are looking for an Innovation Management Officer on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA) for their location in ​Noordwijk, The Netherlands.​, to join their ​Directorate of Human & Robotic Exploration​.  

 

The service supports ESA commercialisation and innovation management activities aimed at: 

  

  • Developing partnerships with private entities for the development of future exploration capabilities enabled by private investment and co-funding in areas like crew health and habitation, in-space manufacturing and space resources utilisation.  

  • Stimulating commercial utilisation of space exploration infrastructures in areas like biomanufacturing, pharma, or advanced materials for Earth applications.   

  • Promoting the transfer of space-based innovations to terrestrial applications in areas like waste management or recycling. 

 

 

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage). 

 

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to: 

  • Deliver end-to-end OSIP Call Campaigns implemented within the framework of the BSGN in close coordination with all ESA internal and external stakeholders, including: 

    • Promotion of the call through B2B marketing activities;  

    • Development of all documentation required for the publication of the OSIP Call;  

    • Coordination of the evaluation process;  

    • Development of a report on the outcome of the evaluation.  

  • Define and deliver selected Innovation Challenges, including:  

    • Promotion of the Challenge through B2B marketing activities;  

    • Develop an Implementation Plan of the Challenge;  

    • Development of the Innovation Challenge rule book;  

    • Definition of the Challenge Prizes;  

    • Establishment of partnerships with Innovation Challenge Sponsors;  

    • Coordination of the Challenge Implementation, including field tests, with all ESA internal and external stakeholders;  

    • Development of a report on the Challenge Outcome.  

  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of commercial/ industrial-driven Projects, including: 

    • Coordination of gate reviews aimed at assessing the technical, programmatic and commercial maturity of the projects;  

    • Assessment of the underlying business model of the commercial projects using the Business Model Canvas approach as well as the Business Plan;  

    • Development of reports summarising the status and outcome of commercial projects.  

    • Maintain the BSGN Web Portal;  

    • Develop the programme of the Annual BSGSN Community Engagement Events, such as the Annual Space resources Week and the Annual Conference on Commercial Space Exploration;  

  • Support the monitoring, and evolution of the BSGN Industry Accelerator Network, including:  

    • Coordinating monthly status reviews;  

    • Development of inputs for Statement of Work for BSGN Industry Accelerators.  

  • Monitor and assess the evolution of in-space and terrestrial markets relevant for Space Exploration and develop market briefings; 

  • Deliver B2B promotion campaigns aimed at promoting BSGN Calls for Project Proposals for Innovation Challenges; 

  • Developing inputs for status reports on commercial activities implemented within the ESA Terrae Novae Programme.

Job requirements

Please ensure that your CV clearly explains how you meet the essential requirements. If it doesn’t align completely with the essential criteria, it could result in rejection. 

  • PhD or Msc in Engineering or Economy/Business Administration;  

  • At least 7 years of relevant experience; 

  • Demonstrated experience in creating professional multimedia content for a B2B audience such as presentations, posters, infographics, banners, podcasts, and short video clips;   

  • Extensive knowledge of techniques to define and implement a successful outside-in marketing strategy (including digital marketing); 

  • Expertise and experience in setting up and hosting mini websites in the esa.int (sub)domain, including knowledge on ESA requirements and internal approval procedures; 

  • Ability to develop and manage partnerships;  

  • Ability to perform review of business models and plans;  

  • Ability to perform or review market assessment;  

  • Experience in organising and managing the delivery of technical and programmatic reviews; 

  • Experience in managing the end-to-end implementation of Requests for Information, Call for Ideas and Call for Proposals using the ESA OSIP platform; 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of industrial utilisation interests in human and automated LEO infrastructures and services and related markets; 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Space Resources Value chain; 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the European Space Exploration Envelope Programmes and the international programme framework or Space exploration; 

  • Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the EU;  

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
