Job description

We are looking for a Spacecraft System Engineer for our location in Frascati, Italy. The selected candidate will be involved with end-to-end reviewing and supervising of future EO missions through appropriate engineering activities. The selected candidate should show integrity and professionalism.


Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage).


The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:

  • Support the assessment of EO missions in the areas of spacecraft design, in particular with respect to satellite platform performance;
  • Support the assessment of EO missions in the areas of system aspects, in particular with respect to mission analysis, system specification, system simulation and system budgets;
  • Support the missions through participation to reviews, assessment of industrial results;
  • Provide detailed knowledge of spacecraft operations and spacecraft operational capabilities;
  • Assist in software requirement definition, review, and verification;
  • Support work in the area of modelling of system or sub-system aspects for end-to-end performance simulation and system engineering tools;
  • Contribute to ensure the technical coherency of the system design of the missions, including, as needed, functional analysis and design, overall system concept, system level budgets, system performance analyses, definition of spacecraft and/or payload subsystems, and related data processing;
  • Review Technical Notes and actively participate to progress meetings and reviews.

Job requirements

  • Master’s degree in Space System Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar;
  • Professional experience of at least 8 years in spacecraft system engineering projects;
  • Strong and demonstrated background in space system engineering, in particular for Earth Observation missions;
  • Experience in space projects, preferably in the Earth Observation field and/or in assessment/review activities;
  • Experience in space system design, mission analysis and small platform sizing is an asset;
  • Experience in system design is an asset;
  • Strong process focus with the ability to intelligently apply standard processes;
  • Able to thoroughly address responsibilities, with good attention to detail and a proven understanding of documentation methods and requirements;
  • Able to review, assess and document (complex) problems and to propose solutions;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong social skills, and ability to build consensus among peers while building solid relationships with team members;
  • Sound knowledge of relevant ECSS or other Space standards;
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken;
  • Knowledge of Italian is an asset;
  • Candidates must be eligible to work and live in EU.
