Job description

We are looking for a ​Junior System Engineer​ on behalf of and in support to our client for their location in ​either Milan, Rome or Turin, Italy​.  

 

OHB Italia is a key player in the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge telescopic systems supporting global Space Situational Awareness (SSA), Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST), and Near-Earth Object (NEO) observation initiatives. 

 

The Telescope Department at OHB Italia is dedicated to the design, development, integration, and deployment of remotely operated optical telescopes supporting international Space Safety initiatives, including Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) and Near-Earth Object (NEO) detection. Their Flyeye Telescope, renowned for its wide field of view and high automation, plays a vital role in planetary defense by continuously scanning the sky for hazardous space objects. 

 

We are currently seeking a motivated Junior System Engineer to join their team and support the technical coordination of the telescope systems during their design, construction, and deployment phases. 

 

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage). 

 

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to: 

  • Support the System Engineer in the technical coordination of the design, construction, and deployment of Flyeye telescopes installed at international sites; 

  • Coordinate technical contributions from multidisciplinary engineering teams (optics, mechanics, electronics, software); 

  • Assist in the requirement flow-down and allocation to subsystem levels; 

  • Contribute to system-level budget tracking and margin maintenance (e.g., mass, power, interfaces); 

  • Perform analyses of functional, performance, and interface requirements; 

  • Participate in system integration, verification, and validation activities both in the lab and on-site; 

  • Draft technical documentation in accordance with applicable international standards; 

  • Collaborate in planning and executing deployment activities at remote sites; 

  • Support the resolution of technical issues arising during construction and commissioning phases; 

  • Additional technical tasks may be assigned as needed.

Job requirements

Please ensure that your CV clearly explains how you meet the mandatory requirements. If it doesn’t align completely with the essential criteria, it could result in rejection. 

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Astrophysics, or another equivalent field; 

  • At least 2 years of professional experience in the design, development, or verification of complex optical or opto-mechanical systems, ideally within the aerospace or astronomical instrumentation sectors; 

  • Strong problem-solving mindset and the ability to work under schedule and logistical constraints; 

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, especially in multicultural and interdisciplinary environments; 

  • Willing to travel frequently and work in remote installation sites worldwide; 

  • Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the EU; 

  • Fluency in Italian, both written and spoken; 

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
