Job description

We are looking for a ​Mechanical AIT for Optical Payload​ on behalf of and in support to our client for their location in ​Florence, Italy​. More information on the client will be given at the interview stage. 

 

The objective of this position is to carry out mechanical integration activities for high-precision optical systems, ensuring compliance with technical requirements, cleanliness protocols, and alignment tolerances throughout the assembly and integration phases.  

 

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage). 

 

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to: 

  • Perform mechanical assembly of precision opto-mechanical and structural components; 

  • Integrate optical payload components in cleanroom environments following strict contamination control protocols; 

  • Perform hardware preparation and kitting prior to integration activities; 

  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, CAD models, and assembly procedures; 

  • Torquing, bonding, pinning using proper tools and techniques; 

  • Assist with optical alignment support (mechanical positioning, fixturing); 

  • Participate in fit checks, mechanical interface verification, and dry-run rehearsals; 

  • Contribute to test setups ensuring proper mechanical configuration; 

  • Document assembly and integration activities, including as-run records, non-conformities, and process improvements; 

  • Support the non-conformance process, including root cause analysis, rework definition, and implementation in coordination with engineering and quality teams; 

  • Work collaboratively with engineering, optical, and quality teams to ensure mission success.

Job requirements

Please ensure that your CV clearly explains how you meet the mandatory requirements. If it doesn’t align completely with the essential criteria, it could result in rejection. 

  • At least 3 years of experience with mechanical assembly of precision components (optical or aerospace experience preferred); 

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings; 

  • Skilled in the use of standard mechanical tools, torque tools, micrometers, and calipers; 

  • Familiarity with contamination control standards and procedures; 

  • Experience working in cleanroom environments, specifically ISO 8 and ISO 5;  

  • Understanding of bonding procedures and the use of epoxies or mechanical adhesives; 

  • Experience in kitting and hardware preparation for cleanroom assembly; 

  • Proficiency in crimping and soldering of connectors, harness elements and thermal hardware according to aerospace or space-grade standards; 

  • Knowledge of ECSS standards for space projects 

  • Experience handling and integrating optical components (e.g., mirrors, lenses) is highly desirable; 

  • Familiarity with space qualification procedures or high-reliability integration is a strong asset; 

  • ECSS certification (e.g., soldering, bonding, assembly) is a strong asset; 

  • Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the EU;  

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
