Job description

We are looking for a ​Media Relations Officer (ESTEC Establishment and The Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Finland & Denmark)​ on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA) for their location in ​Noordwijk, The Netherlands​. 

 

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage). 

 

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to: 

  • In coordination with the ESA Officer in charge of Media relation for ESTEC and with any relevant ESA Communication Program Officers:  

    • Implement the media relation activities at ESTEC in close coordination with the relevant Head of Establishment office and with ESTEC relevant services; 

    • Implement the media relation activities related to The Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and/or any other ESA Member State in the future. 

  • Establish and manage the community of space journalists, who need in depth scientific, technological, political and financial information and facilitate their access to ESA experts; 

  • Plan, implement and evaluate engagement activities to foster a close engagement of the space journalists with ESA’s programmes such as background briefing events; 

  • Keep a log-file for all media requests;  

  • Contribute to media insight analysis;  

  • Maintain and use relevant journalist and influencer databases; 

  • Maintain the list of ESA spokespersons;  

  • Deal with requests from media for interviews, information and support related to ESTEC, The Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark, ensuring the necessary level of message coherence and answering the journalist queries in a timely manner; 

  • Organize interviews and briefings for individual journalists as appropriate; 

  • Organize media and outreach events; 

  • Ensure the newsroom and media relations processes are well implemented between the establishments; 

  • Prepare, send and update press and news releases.

Job requirements

Please ensure that your CV clearly explains how you meet the essential requirements. If it doesn’t align completely with the essential criteria, it could result in rejection. 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field;   

  • At least 5 years of experience in a relevant field;   

  • Proven proficiency in the use of IT tools such as SP, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, HRMS and other office automation applications;    

  • Good knowledge of the media landscapes of The Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark; 

  • Excellent administrative, planning, writing and organisational skills;   

  • Discretion at all levels is required;    

  • High level of flexibility, as well as initiative and team spirit;   

  • Commitment and reliability in the execution of assigned tasks;   

  • Ability to work under pressure;   

  • Calm but assertive approach;   

  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the EU;    

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken;

  • Fluency in any of the following Nordic languages: Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and Finnish.
