We are looking for a ​Mission Control System Engineer​ on behalf of and in support to our client for their location in ​Rome, Italy​.  

 

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage). 

 

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to: 

  • Design the high level architecture of the Mission Control System, and specify its main functionalities; 

  • Define MCS requirements and interfaces, including Space to Ground IF and Ground to Ground IF; 

  • Collaborate with satellite specialists for the integration of telemetry, tracking & command (TT&C); 

  • Follow MIB construction and maintenance, coordinating the input from satellite manufactures and the activities of MIB specialists; 

  • Conduct integration, validation and verification, and testing to ensure that system requirements and performance are met; 

  • Support real-time operations during critical mission phases (launch, LEOP, commissioning); 

  • Prepare system related documentation (Specifications, Design, Technical Notes, User Manuals, Test Procedures and Reports); 

  • Technical management of suppliers, including preparation of SoW and WPD, review of the deliverables associated with MCS components; 

  • Support the operations team to develop, validate, and implement operational procedures for satellite command and control; 

  • Participate to periodic technical meetings; 

  • Participate in the continuous improvement of processes and technological innovation in the field of mission control.

Job requirements

  • Master’s degree in STEM disciplines; 

  • At least four years of relevant work experience; 

  • Knowledge of Mission Control System concepts, mechanism and functionalities, including:

    • Telemetry reception and decoding (Packet and Parameters); 

    • Telecommand preparation, encoding and releases aspects; 

    • Mission Information Base / Mission Database management; 

    • Connectivity with the Ground Stations; 

  • Solid knowledge of the principles of TT&C; 

  • Experience with TM/TC protocols (CCSDS, ECSS) and Mission Control systems (ESOC, SCOS-2000, EGSCC or equivalent); 

  • Knowledge of relevant Space Industry Standards, such as ECSS and CCSDS; 

  • Familiarity with at least one programming language such as Python, C/C++, Java or Linux environments; 

  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex systems; 

  • Excellent problem solving skills and working in multidisciplinary teams; 

  • Quality orientation, attention to detail and systemic approach; 

  • Good knowledge of technical English; 

  • Experience with real-time satellite operations is considered an asset; 

  • Knowledge of tools for requirements management (e.g. DOORS) and versioning system (e.g Git) is considered an asset; 

  • Experience with ticketing systems (e.g. Jira, Redmine) is considered an asset; 

  • Knowledge of IP networks, IT security and distributed systems is considered an asset; 

  • Familiarity with cloud architectures for ground segments (e.g., Ground Station Network as a Service, microservices and containers) is considered an asset; 

  • Background in machine learning or automation for space operations is considered an asset;

  • Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the EU; 

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
