Job description

We are looking for an Outreach Support for Public Relations and Social Media on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA) for their location in Darmstadt, Germany, to join their Outreach Service. The selected candidate should show integrity and professionalism.


Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage).


The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:

  • Ensure outreach activities in ESA MS: Germany, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic by:
    • Ensure the operational liaison with national space agencies for coordination of common outreach initiatives;
    • Liaison with the relevant Department’s Office to facilitate potential expansion of Partnerships within these Member States;
    • Promotion of coordinated outreach events by writing articles for both the Intranet and the ESA portal, as well as draft project/final reports;
    • Support in the creation of the national web pages on the ESA Portal and social media channels in liaison with the relevant Department’s Office;
    • Support to the outreach activities of the ESA astronauts of Germany, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic nationalities in close collaboration with EAC;
    • Support to events organization (national events and upon request international ones) in line with identified priorities;
    • Coordination of the potential participation of external communicators network to these events ;
    • Support to relevant social media campaigns;
  • Ensure ESOC outreach activities by;
    • Organization and implementation of potential outreach events at establishment level as well as ESOC visits for general public (and schools) by coordinating in liaison;
      • With the service provision for ESOC local and logistic activities, all related logistic support and activities such as action lists preparation, related meeting, agenda organization, follow up of open actions and documentation management, periodical update and distribution of the ESOC news on the existing display systems;
      • With the Head of Establishment office, the management of the flow of visit requests, liaison with security personnel, staff lectures, distribution of information material;
    • Ensure in liaison with the relevant Department’s Office promotional/merchandising material availability for ESOC events and visits, and liaise adequately with the ESOC Space Shop when needed;
  • Bring contentious issues to the attention of the Manager.

Job requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Outreach, or a related discipline;
  • At least 10 years of relevant work experience;
  • High proficiency with modern electronics office automation tools, in particular Microsoft Office suite and electronic mailing;
  • Ability to communicate with industry counterparts in the execution of the project-specific tasks;
  • Familiarity with ESA working environment in a similar position is a distinct advantage;
  • Familiarity with outreach activities related to science and technology.
  • Capacity to identify priority actions and handle high workloads;
  • Easy contact with personnel and well-balanced autonomy in the execution of the requested tasks;
  • High level of flexibility as well as initiative and team spirit;
  • Rigor, commitment, and reliability in the execution of the assigned tasks;
  • Good understanding of the German media landscape;
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken;
  • Fluency in German, both written and spoken.
