Job description

We are looking for a ​Payload Technology Validation Engineer​ on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA) for their location in ​Noordwijk, Netherlands​.  

 

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage). 

 

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to: 

 

  • Support the working groups, mission study team, project team or operation team for the definition of the validation activities; 

  • Support the definition of the validation activities setups; 

  • Support the preparation of the validation activities setups – electrical, software and cryo aspects; 

  • Prepare and maintain test documentation (test requirement, test plan and test report);  

  • Perform commissioning and testing of the validation activities setups;  

  • Perform tests related to payload validation activities mainly but not limited to optical detectors, s-rays and superconductor technologies; 

  • Perform tests data analysis and provide reports to the supported study team, project team or operation team; 

  • Support to monitoring of industrial technology development activities;  

  • Support to payload reviews; 

  • Support to evaluation of proposals in response to mission calls, missions of opportunity, and technology calls; 

  • Provide payload expertise for future mission studies or projects; 

  • Support to infrastructure maintenance, covering opto-electronic equipment calibration and service; 

  • Provide software development in support to payload technology validation activities (data analysis and equipment control); 

  • Support the development and testing of front-end electronics for sensors (CCD, Infrared detectors, CIS etc.); 

  • Support mixed signal ASIC testing at room and cryo temperatures, as well as more generic applications in laboratory environment; 

  • Support the development of digital controller (FPGA or DSP based).

Job requirements

Please ensure that your CV clearly explains how you meet the essential requirements. If it doesn’t align completely with the essential criteria, it could result in rejection. 

  • A PhD or Master's degree in engineering or applied physics;  

  • At least 5 years of experience in a relevant filed; 

  • Experience with science instruments in all phases;  

  • Experience in design, performance analysis, development and testing of various types of space instrumentation;  

  • Experience in dealing with complex space payloads and space science technology development;  

  • A well-developed system view and understanding of payload requirements and development needs, together with knowledge of payload technologies and general space instrumentation;  

  • System engineering and understanding of system requirements and interfaces;  

  • Candidate must be result oriented, a forward thinker, prove operational efficiency, and seek continuous improvement;  

  • Ability of fostering cooperation, and relationship management;  

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong social skills, and ability to build consensus among peers while building solid relationships with team members;  

  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the EU;  

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
