Job description

We are looking for a Professional Editor on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA) for their location in Noordwijk, the Netherlands. The purpose of this position is to support the TEC Directorate, home to the ESA Education Programme, which has the objective to use space as a theme to enhance the literacy of young people in science and technology and to motivate young Europeans to pursue STEM studies and careers related to space in particular. The selected candidate should show integrity and professionalism.


Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage).


The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:

  • Regular update and maintain ESA’s educational communication platforms, including the ESA Education and ESA Kids websites and associated social media channels (Facebook and LinkedIn);
  • Monitor the status of such websites and social media platforms as far as consistency, scientific accuracy and completeness of their content are concerned (texts and multimedia); ensure that relevant on-line links and applications are maintained and working; monitoring social media platforms and regularly interacting with audiences to increase followers;
  • Provide contents at C2 English level which are scientifically correct and didactically sound to be used for online platform and printed material in support of the educational programme of ESA;
  • Deal with ESA Corporate Communication and other designated services and partners;
  • Provide content support to other online platforms under the coordination of ESA Education, including the ISEB website and the ESA/ESERO school project online platforms;
  • Produce presentations in support of ESA Education internal and external outreach and communication;
  • Provide content support for Communication campaigns for ESA Education activities and events;
  • Create news stories and new features to be published on the ESA Education webpages.

Job requirements

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (Communication or Science);
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience (Science Communication applied to STEM Education);
  • High proficiency with modern electronics office automation tools, in particular Microsoft Office suite and electronic mailing;
  • Knowledge of the most used Content Management Systems;
  • Ability to communicate with institutional counterparts in the execution of the project-specific tasks;
  • Experienced in producing scientific and educational content;
  • Familiarity with large and international organisations;
  • Familiarity with space topics is an asset;
  • Familiarity with ESA working environment in a similar position is an asset;
  • Capacity to identify priority actions and handle high workloads;
  • Be a team player;
  • Easy contact with personnel and well-balanced autonomy in the execution of the requested tasks;
  • High level of flexibility as well as initiative and team spirit;
  • Rigor, commitment, and reliability in the execution of the assigned tasks;
  • High attention to detail;
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the EU.
