Job description

We are looking for a ​Senior Linux Administrator​ on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA) for their location in ​Noordwijk​, The Netherlands. Please be aware that this is a fully on-site position, daily attendance is mandatory.

 

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage). 

 

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to: 

  • Design, deploy, and manage infrastructure using Kubernetes and modern CI/CD pipelines; 

  • Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline Linux system operations; 

  • Implement infrastructure as code (IaC) for consistent, repeatable deployments; 

  • Serve as an advanced administrator for Microsoft SQL Server environments; 

  • Manage database performance tuning, security, replication, backup, and recovery strategies; 

  • Ensure high availability and disaster recovery across enterprise databases; 

  • Manage and optimize a small dedicated HPC cluster, particularly with IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS); 

  • Collaborate with engineers to support computational workloads; 

  • Monitor HPC cluster performance, storage, and scalability; 

  • Support HPC cluster upgrades with main supplier; 

  • Oversee Linux-based environments, ensuring stability and security; 

  • Troubleshoot complex issues across systems; 

  • Maintain robust monitoring, alerting, and reporting solutions; 

  • Collaborate closely with the team members to resolve critical incidents promptly and contribute to the execution and completion of IT infrastructure projects.

Job requirements

Please ensure that your CV clearly explains how you meet the essential requirements. If it doesn’t align completely with the essential criteria, it could result in rejection. 

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; 

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience, including at least 4 years of experience in system administration, with a pronounced focus on System management automation; 

  • Certification in Kubernetes or relevant DevOps technologies is preferable; 

  • Oracle DBA or Microsoft SQL certifications are preferable; 

  • IBM Spectrum Scale training or certification is preferable; 

  • Expertise in Linux system automation (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, or similar); 

  • Proven advanced experience as an MS SQL Server administrator; 

  • Hands-on experience with HPC management and IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS); 

  • Knowledge of networking, storage, and system security best practices; 

  • Background in DevOps methodologies and tools (Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, IaC); 

  • Robust understanding of backup technologies, encompassing data deduplication, replication, and snapshot management; 

  • Proficient in utilizing system monitoring tools and techniques to maintain system health and performance; 

  • Proficiency in scripting languages for automation and scheduling tasks; 

  • ITSM best practices proven knowledge, preferably ITIL v3 or V4 foundation certification; 

  • A proactive approach to learning and be willing to certify in new technologies as per the ATG Training Programme; 

  • RHEL and infrastructure technology certifications are an asset; 

  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills; 

  • Strong communication skills; 

  • Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the EU; 

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken; 

  • Knowledge of other languages is considered a plus.
