We are looking for a ​Social Media Support professional​ on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA) for their location in ​Noordwijk, The Netherlands​, to join their ​Science Directorate (SCI)​. Please be aware that this is a part-time position for 8 hours per week. 

 

The service aims to support ESA’s social media activities for SCI in English on all channels operated by SCI (on X, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn and other current or future social media) as well as the SCI directorate’s contributions to ESA corporate channels. As such, the successful candidate will establish, maintain and implement a SCI programme-wide social media plan, following the objectives & deliverables of the SCI communications implementation plan. Particular emphasis shall be placed on writing and editing texts, coordinating images/animations and videos specific for social media channels, conceiving and implementing social media campaigns, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders and contributors, as well as coordinating activities with Corporate Communications & other units both within and external to ESA while maintaining the highest scientific standards without compromising accessibility for the general public.  

 

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage). 

 

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to: 

 

  • Prepare and maintain a SCI programme-wide social media plan as well as individual social media;  

  • Support the creation of audio-visual products for ESA’s social media channels by providing specifications for production, feedback during production and iteration of approval-ready drafts;  

  • Conceive & implement social media campaigns and audience engagement concepts for different audiences;  

  • Manage content publishing of SCI social media channels among SCI communications;  

  • Coordinate social media content and publishing with Corporate Communications’ and other units’ social media services inside ESA and external partners;  

  • Participate in DG-C content creation & publishing coordination meetings as well as the SCI Editorial Boards and liaise between both;  

  • Support individual mission X channels, provide coordination, e.g. through a dedicated Microsoft Teams channel, and guidelines, perform regular checks for adequate channel content management;  

  • Manage audience questions & comments triggered by SCI social media activities, liaising with ESA personnel and other stakeholders where necessary to address the questions and comments; 

  • Bring potentially contentious issues to the attention of internal stakeholders as required; 

  • Monthly and ad hoc reporting for ESA’s social media channels; 

  • Keep abreast of new social media channels and assess their usefulness for ESA; 

  • Coordinate with ESA corporate social media channels and contribute D/SCI content to these channels;  

  • Provide technical support for social media channels including the:  

    • Scheduling and publishing social media messages written by editor(s);  

    • Verifying no technical errors in publishing occurred; 

    • Monitoring for downtime of platforms or updates that technically impact social media; 

    • Gathering statistics for editor(s) to analyse and interpret; 

    • Maintaining the social media workflow infrastructure in good order.

Job requirements

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field;  

  • At least 4 years of relevant experience, preferably within ESA or the Space sector; 

  • Specialised experience in social media support; 

  • Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the EU; 

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
