Job description

We are looking for a Support Project Manager on behalf of and in support to our client for their location in either Rome or Milan, Italy. The position will be in support to the Program Manager of an ESA Planetary Defense Mission.


Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage).


The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:

  • Support the Program Manager in the exploitation of complex space mission projects, helping ensuring they meet technical, schedule, and financial objectives from conception to completion;
  • Act as deputy of the Program Manager, part of the PMO team, including Procurement Managers which support the PM in the interaction with external suppliers and contractors, ensuring they meet project deliverables on time and within budget;
  • Project progress status monitoring;
  • Measure project performance
  • Organize and lead project meetings, technical reviews and workshops, providing clear communication and redacting project documentation of outcomes;
  • Build up and continue monitoring & maintenance of the project schedule, proactively proposing recovery actions when needed;
  • Oversee cross-functional teams, aligning internal resources (engineering, procurement, finance) to ensure smooth project execution;
  • Interface with the Customer primarily managed by the program manager, acting as Program Manager deputy, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring customer requirements are met;
  • Contribute to management of project economics, including cost estimation, budget tracking, risk mitigation, and reporting on overall financial health;
  • Support in the preparation of ATPs, LOLs, Preliminary Order Letters etc.;
  • Negotiate Change Requests and take over Contract Change Management activities (CR and CCN process);
  • Supervise contract compliance (concerning quality, time and costs), Management and implementation of project changes;
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks to the project schedule, budget, and performance, ensuring proactive measures are in place;
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards (e.g., ESA, ASI) and regulatory requirements throughout the project lifecycle;
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed, perimeter of the specific activity to be followed to be agreed.

Job requirements

Please ensure that your CV clearly explains how you meet the mandatory requirements. If it doesn’t align completely with the essential criteria, it could result in rejection.

  • Masters Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Management or comparable qualifications;
  • At least 5 years of experience in technical roles in mechanical or electrical engineering in space business;
  • At least 2 years of experience in Program Management in the space business;
  • Experience in team building, coordination and conflict resolution, with positive attitude and leadership;
  • Experience with contract change management and implementation;
  • Strong experience with planning and scheduling techniques with project management software and methodologies (e.g., MS Project, ECSS, PMP);
  • Deep understanding of space mission standards, industry practices, and protocols;
  • Strong knowledge of project economics, including cost estimation and budget management;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to present complex information clearly to clients and stakeholders;
  • Proficiency in negotiation with customers, suppliers, and stakeholders to achieve the best project outcomes;
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills;
  • Strong risk management skills;
  • Capable of working under pressure with tight planning and multitasking;
  • Willing to undertake business travels in Europe when needed;
  • Precise attitude to solve problems and produce outputs in customer-oriented way (both internal and external);
  • Experience working in international teams is an asset;
  • Fluency in English and Italian, both written and spoken.
