Job description

We are looking for a ​Thermal Engineer ​in support of our location in ​Frascati, Italy.​  

 

Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe (or one of its subsidiaries). Furthermore, upon selection, they will be subject to a general security screening performed by an external provider (further information will be provided at interview stage). 

 

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to: 

 

  • Tasks and responsibilities which will involve working on the thermal control system of an advanced thermo-fluidic system: 

  • Technical coordination of the activity; 

  • Perform concept design of the thermal management solution, including structural, thermal, and fluidic aspects; 

  • Derive requirements for the engineering model thermal management solution; 

  • Define the verification plan of the system on what concerns the thermal management solution; 

  • Design the thermal management solution; 

  • Develop thermal and fluidic test setups, plans and procedures for the verification of the thermal management solution of the system; 

  • Procure the parts for and manufacture the thermal management solution for the system engineering model; 

  • Execute dedicated TVAC tests aimed at the verification of the thermal management solution; 

  • Optimize the thermal management solution and update the requirements based on the outcomes of the test campaign; 

  • Perform technical activities, including: 

  • Conceptual and detailed design of thermal control systems for spacecraft hardware; 

  • Modelling and analysis of spacecraft hardware and optimization of TCS; 

  • Generation, review and/or negotiation of requirements/specifications, design, development, and verification plans as well as test plans and procedures; 

  • Participation in MAIT campaigns, as the responsible thermal engineer; 

  • Contribute to commercial activities including (technical) proposal preparation, offers, team business development, etc; 

  • Direct interfacing with customers on a technical level; 

  • Supervision and mentoring of junior colleagues; 

  • Participation and active contribution to team and company development, e.g., generating/supporting novel technical ideas/innovations, new processes/methods, new ways of work and positive work culture.

Job requirements

Please ensure that your CV clearly explains how you meet the mandatory requirements. If it doesn’t align completely with the essential criteria, it could result in rejection. 

  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, or similar; 

  • At least 5 years of relevant industrial work experience in space thermal engineering; 

  • Experience with fluid dynamics in the context of thermal engineering; 

  • Experience with thermal equipment testing in vacuum; 

  • Broad knowledge and experience on how to develop and realize space thermal control solutions; 

  • Experience with the design of heat-exchanger is an asset; 

  • Significant experience with Thermal software (ESATAN-TMS or THERMICA), CAD software (Solidworks, Catia) and FEM software (Nastran, FEMAP) is an asset; 

  • Experience with the procurement of thermal hardware is an asset; 

  • Ability to work autonomously and self-managed; 

  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the EU; 

  • Availability to frequently travel to customer’s premises in Milan region the first year. Ideally available to work seconded at our customer’s premises during some periods of time. Other options can be discussed; 

  • Candidates must be eligible to work and live in the EU; 

  • Fluency in English both written and spoken; 

  • Fluency in Italian is an asset.
